That is the new saying I hear all the time, "now that you are adopting you will get pregnant" This is now the most annoying comment you can say to someone. Yeah right, signing those adoption papers will magically fix my husbands sperm and make everything work right! We had two failed IVF's- hello people. We couldn't get pregnant in a lab, what makes you think we can get pregnant naturally!?
Yes, there are a lot of women who adopt and then get pregnant- I am sure it helps to take the stress off, because stress does effect trying to conceive.
But in actuality only 8% of all couples that are faced with infertility who go onto adopt get pregnant.
So please to your friends who are adopting just say, "we are so excited for you, you guys will be great parents" and leave it at that!
Well, we've taking the next big step and pulled out the big guns and have done our first IVF. After years of being unable to conceive naturally and a few IUI's with no results, our first IVF may have finally revealed our problem.
Sperm normally can live up to a week once implanted into the female. Giving it ample time to find where it needs to go. Mine on the other hand only has about an hour. Of course when trying naturally there was no way of knowing this and since the IUI's injected the little guys fairly quickly we had no idea they were dying. This is why nothing has been working. They never have a chance.
My sperm always seemed perfectly normal. Once the initial analysis was over there was no further checking for any other problems and this was never caught until now.
This has been very disheartening as we thought this was going to be the fix all. To be so excited thinking this was the one to feeling doubt just sucks. We did implant 6 eggs. One at least looked pretty good and one is all it takes. See Shannon's post for more of what happened.
For those of you who follow us please pray for us. I feel just horrible that we may not be parents once again. I know Shannon will be devastated. I can't bare to see her disappointed again.
I don't understand why this has happened to the people who are known as "the couple who have everything". This may be the one thing we can't have. We are loving, have a nice home, are able to support ourselves and a child or children, and we would love our child as much as we love each other. I have heard the theory that we pick our parents, but does no one want to pick us? I don't know why that would be.
There are so many people who obviously don't want children. They have abortions, chloroform their kids and leave in car trunks for dead, smother them and bury them in the park, try to sell them on Craigslist, and through them in trash cans. Why do they get to conceive and we do not?
I have to think God wants us to tell our story and help others. But right now I feel we need the help. God please Bring Us A Baby.
Can't get pregnant- go to Ripley's Believe it or not in Myrtle Beach, SC! Today it was announced the MYRTLE BEACH, SC Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium in Myrtle Beach will host the fifth stop of a three year, multi-city international tour of the world famous Ripley’s Fertility Statues! They will premier in Myrtle Beach on February 5, following crowd-pleasing stops at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditoriums in New York’s Times Square, Grand Prairie, Texas, Williamsburg, Virginia. and Orlando, Florida.
Thousands of people have seen the statues while on display all over the country. Some are very serious about touching the statues, believing in their powers to help them conceive. Others want to avoid touching the statues - for the very same reason!
Amazingly more than 2,000 women have reported they became pregnant shortly after touching the wooden statues. Many of them had been told by doctors they would never be able to conceive! Since the women’s stories became public in 1994, millions have visited the statues.
The five-foot tall wooden statues were acquired from the Ivory Coast (Cote-d’Ivoire) of West Africa in 1993, and were placed in the lobby of Ripley Entertainment’s corporate headquarters in Orlando. Within months, 13 women, including staffers and office visitors were pregnant.
Following a December 1995 story in the Wall Street Journal chronicling the phenomenon, after the story hit newspapers the demand to touch the statues because very great.
In 2001 the statues were retired to the Ripley warehouse, much to many's dismay. But due to high demand they were brought out of retirement and put on display at the Ripley headquarters in Orlando where they have been seen by hundreds each month who made a special pilgrimage to see and touch the statues.
“For years now, we have been inundated with requests to make these statues available once again at our odditoriums throughout the world,” said Edward Meyer, VP Archives & Exhibits for Ripley Entertainment. “Amazingly, people are still finding out about them and call us wanting an opportunity to come in and touch them. Due to this demand, we have decided to tour them again.”
Here is the schedule of where the statues will be appearing over the next few months. I can tell you that being a woman suffering from infertility that I will be traveling from Las Vegas to Hollywood in May to touch the statues. It has been stated by Ripley's that the statues will be made available to the public and couples looking to conceive will be able to view the statues for free and touch them.
